7 Things you don't know about the World Wide Web

Almost everyone in this world uses internet directly or indirectly. You can barely see someone without using the internet right. So this internet plays a major role in our everyday life (even some people lives inside the net..lol).
How much do we know about this internet?
Here are some Interesting pieces of stuff about the Internet.

1. Hey "Google" What's in a Name?

The name "Google" is actually a creative spelling of "googol" which is the name for the number 1 followed by 100 zeroes. Back sometime in the late 90's Larry Page and Sergey Brin had been working on a search engine and had given it the name BackRub.Turns out that Google is the misspelling of mathematical term "googol".  Googol was coined in the 1930s and is attributed to the nine-year-old nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner.

2.Ancestor of Electronic Message

The first message sent between computers was "lo" by UCLA student Charley Kline. The sender was trying to transmit the text "login" to a computer at the Stanford Research Institute but the system crashed before he finished typing. The message was sent over the first link on the ARPANET, which was the precursor to the modern Internet.

3.The Grandfather of the Internet

The ARPANET was the first version of the internet. It was developed by DARPA(Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency) a branch of the military that developed top secret systems and weapons during the Cold War by the US Government with the aim of having a military command and control centre that could withstand a nuclear attack. The point was to distribute information between geographically dispersed computers in 1969. Over time by the development of TCP/IP and HTTPS and LAN, it became more and more prevalent and powerful to become what we know call as the Internet.

4.False Traffic Jam

About 51% of internets traffic is fake though. There are countless bots and spammers to make it happen. That means Humans only make 49% of the traffic. No doubt we would have faster connectivity if they weren't leeching on bandwidth.

5.First Facetime

The first webcam was created at the University of Cambridge to monitor trojan coffee pot. A Live 128×128  grayscale picture of a state of the coffee pot was provided as the video feed.

6."Surfing" Everywhere

The term "surfing" the internet originated in 1992, courtesy of a new york librarian whose name was  Jean Armour Polly. Surely there are so many people who can surf without a surfboard.

7.YouTube, ITube, WeTube

Approximately 72 hours of YouTube video content is being uploaded every sixty seconds and that’s just one website. Imagine all the storage required to house all of this data.
